Angelita Itzanami Reyes

Angelita Itzanami Reyes is a Mexican American dance artist, born and raised in Woodstock, GA. A former competitive dancer, she earned her B.A. in Dance with a Ballet concentration from Kennesaw State University. She is the founder and director of SOMOS, a contemporary dance company, and SOMOS Niños, a program providing dance education and opportunities to Latin/Hispanic youth. She has choreographed, danced in, and produced four evening- length works with SOMOS. Since 2019, Angelita has served Elite Studios in many roles, including Assistant Studio Manager and Competitive and Performance Division teacher. In 2023, she danced with Descalzinha Danza in Madrid. During her university career, her dance film was selected for the American Dance College Association, presented in la nuit des idees, and awarded an Undergraduate Creative Activity and Research Grant. Additional honors include the Pomare-Connor Memorial Endowed Fund for Dance, the Choreographic Recognition Award, and KSU's Outstanding Senior distinction. Angelita has extensive training and teaching experience across commercial and concert styles, including at Xcel Studios, GagaLab NYC, and as a scholar at Bates Dance Festival. Angelita's work has been presented in Atlanta, New York City, and Paris as well as featured in The Atlanta Journal Constitution and ArtsATL. Angelita is passionate about leading spaces embracing ones culture, finding the joy of the moment, and pushing past ones limits. She is currently pursuing her Pilates certification to further expand her impact as a movement educator.
